The new CEO of a Taranaki telecommunications company is no stranger to the business.

In fact, OurCloud’s new CEO, Steve Collett, has been with the company since its inception in 2014.

Steve joined the company at the time as a senior virtualization consultant, becoming the technical operations manager three years later, a role that gave him responsibility for the entire engineering team.

His latest promotion to general manager was warmly welcomed by the entire OurCloud team, a company spokesperson said.

“He has certainly worked hard over the years and it’s fantastic to see his determination and loyalty rewarded.”

Steve describes himself as a geek who is happiest when solving complex computer problems, as well as an avid fisherman who enjoys fishing off Great Barrier Island on a calm, sunny day.

While born in Tokoroa, Steve spent much of his childhood in Samoa and Papua New Guinea before moving to Taranaki at the age of 12. As a teenager, he developed equal loves for fishing and the computer world. Although he had won a number of fishing competitions, he decided IT was a better job option and started his career in the IT department of PIHMS in New Plymouth before spending eight years working for Powerco, learning everything he could about firewalls, data networking, citrix and Windows servers, before joining OurCloud.

OurCloud was launched by a group of local investors and has grown into a business serving over 150 customers in Taranaki and beyond. With an in-house data center and IT team based in Taranaki, the company is focused on delivering the best technology systems, Steve explains.

“The great thing about OurCloud is the level of service we provide, the technology we have, and the speed at which we can change things. We have a great team of engineers who continually go the extra mile.”
